Breakfast at the Costa Navarino puts emphasis on the Greek diet and local produce of Messinia. The rich buffet features mostly Greek, fresh local products. There is a wide variety of breads and bakery products such as sesame “koulouri” bun, “lalagides” (traditional fritter with honey), “tsoureki” (sweet bread), and pastry items such as the traditional “petoules” (prepared before the guests and served with cheese or honey.) Cold cuts (“syglino” from Mani and sausages with orange from Messinia) are worth trying, and there are cheeses such as “sfela” from Messinia, “talagani” from Gargaliani etc. Also, handmade jams and traditional pies, honey and dairy products such as yoghurt, “ryzogalo” (rice pudding) are recommended. Guests may try the dried nuts and fruits, the fresh fruits and vegetables or egg dishes a la carte, such as “strapatsada”, (scrambled eggs with tomato and other ingredients of choice.) The hearty meal ends with a cup of freshly ground coffee (Greek among others) or a glass of freshly squeezed juice of oranges from Messinia, grapefruit or pomegranate.
