Hotel Bratsera is one of the most charming small hotels in Greece and its renovated building used to be a sponge factory. The hotel is only a two-minute walk from the port of Hydra and has 25 rooms surrounded by a spacious garden full of flowers. The breakfast at Bratsera aims to showcase the gastronomic treasures of Greece. Its bread basket has a great variety (fresh multigrain bread, whole wheat, white village style, bread rolls from carob flour, ring bun with sesame, bread sticks, rye loaf etc.) Homemade pies are a must: spinach pies, cheese pies, chicken pies, small Cretan pies with “myzithra” cheese and Cretan pies with wild greens as well as the traditional sweet custard “bougatsa” pie. Eggs, omelettes, tarts and a selection of Greek cheeses and cold cuts comprise the savory flavors of the buffet.
The chef recommends homemade sweets: orange cookies, oat biscuits, cakes, apple pie, “pasta flora” jam tart and the delicious orange pie. The semolina pudding (halva) is filled with raisins and almonds and there is also a walnut pie with chocolate. Garden fruits are used for the homemade jams. For fans of a healthier diet there is yoghurt, thyme honey, tahini, dried and fresh fruit, walnuts, cereals, fresh fruit salad. Last but not least, one should try the “amygdalota” (sugar coated almond macaroons) of Hydra.
