The breakfast buffet puts emphasis on Cretan and Greek products. Guests may select fresh bread from the bakery (wheat, multi grain, rye and whole wheat), biscuits and various cakes. Highly recommended is the famous Cretan rusk (barley bun and wheat), the “kalitsounia” (“lychnarakia” and “anevata”) with sweet cheese and the cream-filled “bougatsa” pie. There is a wide selection of fresh fruits as well as dried fruits and jams made from various fruits or from carob, olives and herbs. Eggs are cooked “strapatsada” style (scrambled eggs and tomato) or served fried. Guests may combine the delicious Greek yoghurt with various cereals, Cretan honey or tahini. Traditional cheeses such as “kefalotyri”, “anthogalo” and “feta”, and vegetables such as tomatoes, cucumbers, onions, carrots as well as a selection of olives are also served.

At the Elounda Mare the breakfast buffet features a Cretan corner, with traditional “dakos” rusk, “myzithropitakia” (small pies with myzithra cheese) and “kaltsounia lychnarakia”, as well as olives, tomatoes and cheeses, rusks and barley buns. There are also cold cuts, cheeses, salted and smoked fish, pickles and cheese from the rest of Greece. A bakery section offers bread and bakery products, biscuits and cookies. The fruits and juices occupy another section, and the same applies to the dairy produce section, which features yoghurts of Lasithi, traditional “ryzogalo” (rice pudding) and fresh Greek milk.

At breakfast guests may find selected products of Crete in a rich Cretan buffet with references to some other dishes from other parts of Greece, popular in Crete. The buffets are arranged by product categories, such as bakery products and Cretan bread, fruits, jams, cold cuts and cheeses, cereals, salads, omelettes, hot dishes, pies, “loukoumades” (honey dumplings) prepared on the spot, desserts from Crete and the rest of Greece etc. Cretan dairy products such as sheep’s yoghurt, “oksygala”, gruyere, “ksynomizithra” cheese stand out. Greek cereals include oat, cookies and biscuits crumbs with cinnamon, oil and honey pumpkin seeds, sesame, hazelnuts, walnuts, pistachios from Aegina and many others.

Breakfast at the Creta Royal includes a selection of local delicacies and products that can be found in the Cretan Corner of the main restaurant. There is fresh bread baked on the premises and rusks with grated organic tomato and extra virgin olive oil. The local handmade jams and spoon sweets add a special touch to the buffet. Dairies include local, traditional cheeses such as gruyere, “tyromalama”, fresh “anthotyro”, “ksinomyzithra” as well as sheep’s yoghurt.

Guests will also find a selection of cold cuts from local producers such as smoked “apaki” pork. A selection of olives is also available (green olives from Chalkidiki, Kalamata type olives and “throubes” olives. Hotel specialties include “sfouggato” (omelet with zucchini), “apaki” (smoked pork with carob honey) and “galochondros” (traditional pasta soup).

Breads include varieties with cheese, tomato, olives, onions or peppers. Guests may choose barley or wheat rusks, rusks with olive oil, breadsticks with sunflower seeds, Local specialties include “ksinohondro” and “trahana”(traditional pasta dishes) and the Cretan “sfouggato” (omelet with zucchini) seasoned with local oregano. Beverages are paired with a sweet treat like the”anevato skaltsouni”” or “lyhnaraki”, mini pie with sweet Cretan “myzithra” cheese.

The traditional Cretan breakfast consists of the most pure and fresh local materials of the land. There is a variety of bread products and homemade pies, spoon sweets and jams, cookies made with virgin olive oil, “tiganites” (pancakes with honey), small fried pies with sweet “anthotyro” cheese, cinnamon and honey, pies with cheese/greens/spinach/sausage. Local cold cuts and cheeses are also served (gruyere from Crete, dry “anthotyros”, “ksinomyzithra”, yoghurt, “ryzogalo” (rice pudding). There is traditional “dakos”: rusk with finely chopped tomato, white cheese, onion and extra virgin olive oil. Omelettes are cooked to order, made with free range eggs. Desserts feature “pasta flora” jam tart, orange pie, cakes. There is a variety of fresh fruits, olives and vegetables. Beverages like Greek coffee and infusions made from traditional Cretan herbs such as “diktamo”, are also offered.
